Company History

Atech Ltd was created in August 1982 and started from small basement premises, in London's Soho area. The initial aim of the company was to provide a 24-hour, seven-day week maintenance service to support the many central London professional photographic laboratories.

Within a year, Atech had five employees and had expanded from the initial 200 square foot premises to 3,500 square foot premises - this allowed for expansion into the refurbishment of processing machines.

Due to the success achieved in the first year the company decided to provide a total solution by offering state-of-the-art new equipment as well as service.

At the end of 1983 Atech became sole UK distributor for both Autopan paper and Refrema film processors, and in 1984 the UK X-Rite distributor for the photographic range of densitometers as well as Tecnodia distributor for 35mm slides mounters and slide mounts.

In 1989, the company moved into the consumables market for mounting and laminating products by acquiring the UK division of the Dutch company Sallmetall b.v.

As Atech continued to expand it took a second building in Camden, however, by the end of 1996 it was clear that running two buildings was inefficient and logistically very difficult to maintain. Atech then re-located to a new 10,000 square foot building in Welham Green, situated on the M25 North of London.

In its mission to provide a complete service ATech diversified into digital media sales and became agents of several manufacturers including Kodak, Epson and H.P. and has launched a full range of display systems, including pop-up, roll-up and banner stands.

At the beginning of 2002 Atech relocated to a custom built unit in Welwyn Garden City, Herts and Stuart McMahon was appointed as a Director.

In March 2002 ATech introduced its own brand of "Mediatech" mounting, laminating, encapsulation films and digital media products, these have proven to be very successful and the range continues to expand.

To keep pace with the changing market place and to stay at the forefront of the digital technology arena, Atech has taken on a complete range of photographic and inkjet digital products and has established itself as a major supplier to the graphic arts and screenprint sectors.

These products include the ZBE Chromira wide format LED photoimager, Zund UV-jet flatbed, UV curable inkjet printer, the complete range of Scitex Superwide Solvent Inkjet Printers, Mimaki, Roland and Hewlett Packard LFP range, together with Wasatch and Onyx RIPS and a complete range of colour management software.

Atech are members of and fully support the PPLA, PMA and DIMA. Their full range of products are promoted at all major UK exhibitions relating to the photographic, graphic art, sign making, Screenprint and digital imaging industries.

Atech has an established dealer network, which enables it to have complete UK coverage in the various market places. Atech has over 900 accounts for service, consumables and equipment - over 500 processors, 2000 densitometers and 700 laminators have been sold and installed in the UK market. Customers include Kodak, Agfa, Fuji, Xerox, Hewlett Packard, 3M, UDO and Prontoprint plus retailers such as Tesco, Boots and Costco.

Whilst Atech has grown dramatically since its inception, it still stays true to the original concept and provides a genuine 24x7 after sales and emergency service cover to its customers.
